Smoking Cessation

Would you like to quit smoking? Would you like to breathe easier, be healthier and save money? Everyone can use a little help sometimes. If you’re a smoker, we have the help you need! We offer two programs you can choose from.

Quit for Life®

BlueCross has partnered with Alere Wellbeing to offer you Quit for Life, one of the most successful tobacco treatment programs. Alere Wellbeing is an independent company that offers the Quit for Life program on behalf of BlueCross. The Quit for Life program is an award-winning, science-based program that gives you personalized, professional support every step of the way. This program is effective with all types of tobacco users — cigarette, pipe, cigar and smokeless tobacco.

How It Works

Quit Coaches, who are trained tobacco treatment specialists, help you prepare to quit. Preparation includes learning what to expect both physically and emotionally, planning for stressful situations and potential triggers, and practicing techniques that will help you quit. The Quit for Life program helps you develop a plan to quit your way. Your Quit Coach will find out what has worked for you in the past and what hasn't. Then, together, a plan will be created just for you that includes:
  • One-on-one phone-based sessions scheduled at your convenience.
  • Unlimited toll-free telephone access to our specialists for the duration of the program.
  • Recommendations for Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) like the patch, gum or lozenges.
  • Delivery of NRT directly to your home at no cost to you, if you choose to use it.
  • A Quit Kit of materials designed to help you between sessions with your Quit Coach.
  • Access to Web Coach, an online resource offering a suite of interactive features, evidence-based content, and social forums.

Tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable death and disease in the United States. It accounts for more than 438,000 deaths per year. Seventy percent of all smokers want to quit and 20 million smokers try each year to quit. However, only 5 percent succeed without assistance. Hundreds of thousands of people have quit using tobacco thanks to this program.

Smoking Cessation

Smoking Cessation is a confidential program designed to help you quit smoking. Call 800-334-7287 today to participate in the program.

We'll send you a stop-smoking guide and tool kit. You'll receive a stress relief item, tracking log and booklet containing relaxation techniques. Approximately one week later, a registered nurse will call to administer a survey about your smoking habits. We'll help you set goals — and we'll call again later to see how you're doing with the program.

Here's what Smoking Cessation can help you do:

  • Understand why quitting is important.
  • Learn how quitting can improve your health.
  • Identify your personal reasons for quitting.
  • Learn ways to quit without going "cold turkey."
  • Get support from your partner, family and friends.
  • Keep your emotions balanced.
  • Avoid temptations to smoke.
  • Break the habits that go with smoking.
  • Conquer the nicotine addiction.
