Columbia, S.C. -- BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has appointed Harvey L. Galloway executive director of the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation.
"Harvey Galloway has worked in all facets of health care administration over many years. He is well placed to continue the Foundation’s work to improving access to health care for the uninsured and underinsured in South Carolina," said M. Edward Sellers, BlueCross BlueShield CEO.
Galloway has worked in the health care industry for 37 years, all for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and its Companion Group of companies. Galloway previously was president and chief operating officer of Companion Technologies, a subsidiary company that BlueCross BlueShield sold in December 2006. Galloway served as chief operating officer of Companion HealthCare (now BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina) from 1989 until 2002, when he joined Companion Technologies. He led Companion HealthCare to become one of the best performing HMOs in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield system.
Galloway also has served as chief operating officer of Companion Benefit Alternatives, a behavioral health utilization management company owned by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, and he was chairman of the board for EAP Alliance, Inc., an administrator of corporate employee assistance programs.
Galloway is a past president of the South Carolina Managed Care Alliance and a member of the Medical Group Management Association. Among his civic activities, he is immediate past president of the South Carolina Philharmonic and still serves on that board. He was Allocation Committee chairman for United Way of the Midlands and is a member of the Tocqueville Society Committee. A past Distinguished President in Kiwanis, he also serves as an advisor to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Organization and has been a Junior League of Columbia Community Advisor.
The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation in 2006 made grant awards totaling $3,499,467 to public schools, nursing education, free medical clinics, hospice care, and other community groups serving the healthcare needs of the uninsured and underinsured across South Carolina.
