Columbia, S.C. – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina announces the promotion of Jim Deyling to president of the company’s private business division.
Effective May 17, Deyling will oversee all of the BlueCross-branded business as well as some subsidiary companies. This includes group and individual insurance products and services, administration services for self-funded group plans, outsourcing services for other Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies, third-party administrator subsidiary companies, a medical travel concierge services company, and a behavioral health benefits administration company.
An 18-year veteran of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Deyling has held a variety of leadership positions in the commercial health care business unit.
He began his career in 1984 at BlueCross BlueShield of Ohio. He progressed from communications through management in marketing, product development and sales support. He joined BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina in 1992 as director of direct response marketing and has since served as senior vice president responsible for the small group and individual insurance division and senior vice president of the major group division.
A U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, Deyling holds a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison College and a master’s degree in business administration from Cleveland State University. He serves on a number of internal and community boards, including the Midlands Interfaith Homelessness Action Council and Companion Life Insurance Company. He also headed BlueCross’ United Way fundraising campaign.
“As BlueCross moves forward with turning challenges into opportunities under federal health care reform, Jim is uniquely suited and capable of moving our company forward to serve the needs of South Carolinians,” said David Pankau, BlueCross’ president and chief operating officer.
